Hi there, I am 21 years old and my partner is 34. She has two children from a previous marriage, her daughter is 15 and her son 13. I get on with the daughter like a house on fire but her son and I seem to have some serious issues. He is very immature for his age and still plays with Star Wars toys and has Teddies on his bed and has to have his Mum tuck him in at night and sometimes she still bathes him. I find this very difficult to deal with. When she is around we both seem to get on fine but as soon as she goes anywhere and we are left alone he will not do a thing that I ask, he is rude and disrespectful to me constantly, how can I help our relationship progress as it is causing problems between his mother and I aswell, I love them all very much and don't want to leave them but it is driving me insane and can't see any way forward.

Hello pal, I had a simalar situation when I got with my partner,she has a lad from her first marriage who was 11 when I moved in,she'd been on her own with him for 5/6 years and for the first year or so I used to get a bit annoyed that she would have to tuck him in and sometimes get into bed with him,i've always got on well with him though so I didn't have some of the issues you do,what I can tell you though is try and get your partner to be a bit tougher and tell him your old enough to take yourself to bed now. Hopefully he'll just snap out of it like my step-son did but try to not get frustrated especially in front of the lad as he could play on that.
